inappropriate affect is usually associated with SCZ, but going off some stuff I've read online, it would seems those on the spectrum have it too.

https://www.dealwithautism.com/wp-conte ... ildren.jpg (the one in the top-left). Just wondering if anyone here relates. I've had this since I was a kid on and off, and it's got me into trouble a bit in the past. Well, either that or this is actually some form of insidious-onset schizophrenia :(

The more I read into SCZ and ASD, the more links I see between them.

I know that inappropriate affect is not uncommon among autistics. You're not alone.

I sometimes have this problem, but I've never actually gotten into trouble for it.

I've lived with such, just as I've lived with being on the schizoid and autism spectrums over the decades. hasn't been easy. mainly I am anxious in a low key, and always on guard.

Autism and schizophrenia do have overlaps but so do anxiety and autism. People with anxiety can also experience a flat affect and show inappropriate facial expressions and do inappropriate laughter. I do not have schizophrenia, just anxiety and ASD. I have caught myself smiling at the wrong times and I wouldn't realize I was doing it and I have gotten in trouble before for laughing and the teachers read it as me not taking them seriously.

Some people with autism have a flat affect, but I don't. In fact, I have been told that if I have an emotion, it shows right away on my face. I can't fake what I don't feel. I would never want to have a flat affect, but I wish negative emotions wouldn't show on my face, because I am really a positive person.

I've very often had people get angry with me because I can't control my tone of voice and it sometimes sounds differently than I feel.

I've gotten called out many times on having a monotone voice and smiling/laughing at inappropriate times and it's made me really self conscious about how I appear in front of others . rip :skull:
