Does anybody own a Roomba or another vacuuming robot? How bad is the noise? Any brands or models to steer clear of? It doesn't need to clean any hard surfaces.

We have a few. And a mopping one too.

We *only* have hard surfaces, but it's less loud than our dishwasher or washing machine.

I'm not usually in the room when it's working.

I'm sensitive to noises, but our robot cleaners don't bother me.

Are Roomba vacuums noisy? Are they high pitched? Low pitched? Are they better/bad on carpet or wood floors? Do they get stuck under tables/chairs? Are any brands bad or can I expect the same performance from virtually any non-Roomba robot vacuum?

I don't know what your noise tolerance is, but we used to have a Samsung one, and we just programmed it to run while we were out. Rearranging chairs and taking things off the floor in preparation takes a bit of time, though.

No dog currently, and yeah, I've heard the horror stories of what happens when Fido has an accident while Roomba is cleaning. Personally, I wouldn't leave a dog alone with a Roomba. The robot might scare the dog.

As for my noise tolerance, um, variable?
I can't stand buzzing lights. I don't like vacuuming myself because of the noise. I'm picky about blenders and alarm clocks because of the noise/pitch. I don't keep my TV cable plugged in (because commercials can be so much LOUDER than the TV show), though I occasional use my DVD player or Netflix/Hulu, and sometimes my fridge bugs me enough that I have to put on headphones. Frankly on Netflix and with DVD's, I always use subtitles.

At the same time, I put up with a lot of noise at work all shift, and I can deal. But my home is supposed to be my retreat, my sanctum, my happy place, etc. I try to keep it me-friendly. Sometimes I resort to using lanterns instead of lights, just so the light isn't so intense but I can still see. I don't turn my air conditioner on unless I deem it necessary or I have a guest.

Don't own one but would also like to know what the noise level is on them. I currently put in earplugs when noises get too much at my current residence. But honestly because of my fibro, it would be lovely to have a little robot vacuum my house for me. Plus I could add googly eyes!

It is much easier to get cat hair off a wood floor than out of carpet.

Good to know if I ever get a cat. Which I won't. Because I'm allergic.
