Our company is now monitoring our electricity use as would any other operational cost; we are now looking for a holistic approach to energy-efficiency that would enable us to achieve long-term and persistent savings. Any suggestions on how we can do this? Can a strategic energy management help?

simple policies like "turn off your screen" can make a large impact in power use; put a "penalty" of buying your office room some sweets for the coffee break if you leave on the screen when walking away, and people will remind themselves of it.

if you just want to monitor; there are inexpensive power measurement units that you just plug in the socket in between the wall socket and device plug, which gives you all the data you need

Perhaps the cheapest thing you can do is to put the computer equipment on power strips that actually turn off the power when you flip the switch. While it isn't a lot of power, the standby power wasted really adds up when you realize that we are talking about 16 hours a day.
Temporarily installing power monitors can identify power hogs. You may want to just get rid of old equipment that uses up too much power and replace them with newer stuff.

We turn our lights off when the room is empty. We also use only CFL glow lamps. Eventually we will switch to LEDs when the price comes down a bit more.

We have been turning off the heat in rooms that are not in use and we keep the door shut on those rooms do the rest of the house is not cooled down. We are still analyzing our bills to see how much we are saving, but exercising those measures is bound to decrease our use of electricity. PS: Unfortunately our house is electrically heated. In our development gas heat is not available.

Energy management is definitely the best way to go that is if you have a budget for it. It has been proven that companies with energy management system generally achieve far greater savings than those without.

We actually shut down our computers when we leave the office and we already have LED lights. Anyway, I heard that the plan for a strategic energy management program pushed through. They're just finalizing the details before they launch it.
