Of course I celebrated my pets' birthdays when I had them! They were always given their favorite foods on that day, which they appreciated of course.
When I found a suiting and cute card, I'd even give them the card. No, they didn't have any appreciation of that part, of course, but it mattered to me so I did. If they had been very into pet toys, that would have been an option, but even my dog wasn't very playful, so it made more sense to treat them with foods they loved.

I never known when my pets were born even thou I had an idea of how old they were/are. I never really been into celebrating special occasions & don't really care to have my own birthday celebrated.

I usually buy my dog a towel or a blanket. He doesn't play with toys anymore.

They you could just make the day they came to you their birthdayor as IstominFan called it, "Gotcha Day". :)
That's what I did in the cases I didn't know. Although with my guinea pig I just made an educated guess putting his birthday at Jan 1st.
My dog Viggo was celebrated both on his b-day in August and his Gotcha Day which happened to be on Valentine's day, which just seemed so right! (We got him via private replacement when he was 4 years old).

When I was living with my sister, she brought a kitten, she was a recused kitten, we didn't know her birthday, she was 3 months old. We made up her birthday.

What's Gotcha Day?

^ I just used the same term IstominFan did above. Gotcha Day is the day when your pet became yours, the day of the purchase/ adoption.

Picking out cards and gifts for my human family members on birthdays and holidays is hard enough, at least my cats don't give a rat's behind if I don't get anything on... oh, I just thought of a present I can get them, a rat's behind!

Just kidding. I did get them a new scratching board with catnip not long ago. And they actually use it! :D
