Still very much a CD listener. Partly because I have so many that I still want to listen to (about 250 at a guess.) And I find new stuff by browsing in record shops for whatever looks interesting. Online shopping is no good for casual browsing. I'm not too good at looking after files, either- I've lost nearly all the mp3s I've got at one time or another.

I like CDs. They're searchable but don't have an overwhelming amount of music on them. You handle a small, physical object just like you pick up a book: "I'm going to read /this/ one now." I get thrown into a panic by open-ended, branching possibilites, so having a device with 2,500 music tracks on it really doesn't appeal to me!

I listen through earphones, mainly in bed. I rely on portable CD players, which is a real problem nowadays- they're getting rarer, and the few models still sold are often badly designed and break easily.

I still have about 100 cassette tapes, though they don't get played much. Similar problem- I can't find a tape player with noise-reduction.

Why don't you get a small stereo with a cd player that you can plug into the wall, if you're going to do that...you could save on batteries and the hassle with dealing with those crappy portable cd players also may be easier to find. Also maybe easier to find..stereos aren't dying off yet.

Or why not just use the stereo speakers and turn it to a lower volume if you don't like it loud...I guess I just can't imagine wearing headphones in bed to listen to music would be very comfortable. And I'd be worried about getting tangled up in them if I feel asleep.

I still buy CDs...at Goodwill. I typically only like one or two songs from an album.

Not really. If I really like the artist then I buy the CD as a collector's item. Usually I rely on Apple Music and my iPod.

It's hard to find CDs I like nowadays. CD selections in stores have gotten smaller. The FYE store at the local mall's CD selection has gotten smaller.

^ yup. . .you are not alone OP! I'm still collecting CDs. . .got circa 300 in my collection. . .something that I'm very proud of and you should be too!. . .my process goes like this;

- Go to a specific store in my city / sometimes Amazon. . .
- Browse the store looking for treats. . .
- Get excited about treats. . .
- I rip my CDs at 320kps for my MP3 player. . .
- I strip the case of it's booklet and CD and alphabetize them in various CD folders (those big ones). . .
- I store the CD cases in boxes. . .
- Record them in a database. . .
- I play CDs. . .
- I record my plays via spreadsheet/paper. . .(as below)

Usually, I'll buy CDs for completeness. . .and I'm one of those people who listens to albums from end to end. . .no single tracks. . .start to finish. . .

This may be excessive. . .it may be my Aspergers that contributes to this strange 'collecting' behaviour. . .but yeah. . .also, I have a weird obsessive behaviour re recording my plays. . .I mean, do any of you guys record stuff like this;

That's actually pretty interesting, I've got to say. I'd imagine not a lot of people do that, though.

You might want to check out Last.fm. It's a service/application that tracks your listens and gives you different statistics based on them. It can also recommend new bands/artists for you to listen to, but the algorithm that's based on is not entirely trustworthy yet, I think. I used to use it personally but stopped when it got to the point that I had to listen to a certain amount of music on a daily basis. It kinda took the enjoyment out of it.

Like you write down the date and time you've listened to a CD...that is a bit odd, but I suppose it doesn't hurt anything lol. I myself could not be bothered to keep up with such a thing.

^ yeah. . .I've used Last.fm. . .years ago like. . .it's cool. . .but over time I've begun not to trust services like this due to their uncertain future. . .like, Last.fm could fold at any minute. . .and take all my tracked music. . .leaving me with nothing. . .at least with my way, I can do something like Last.fm but I have more control. . .

No, I find it too impractical to buy CDs nowadays. I do find them interesting as a collector's item, but again, there's little to no practicality in buying them anymore. It's not like records where they're vintage enough that there's a nostalgic charm. Think of it like keeping GameCube games instead of NES games. CDs are old, but not old enough to have the "retro cred" that makes them worth collecting.

Disagree wholeheartedly. This view makes me shake my head. You collect something because of what's on it. I buy cd's so I can have physical media to take wherever there is a cd player. The nostalgia factor is crap. Don't buy something because it used to make you happy. But cd's because of what's on the cd.

No I've never bought CDs but I am in the process of getting them, there is an album from a band I want that does not have their MP3s for sale and most of the songs on the album are not on the internet so its even more reason for me to get it if I want to hear them.

There are also some other albums I'm looking into getting since they're neither for sale digitally or have their songs on the internet. I just feel paranoid about owning something that is mint/good condition and ruining it.
