I found an interesting picture of the rock band R3D.

One of the band members has a tattoo in Hebrew, but since my Hebrew is rusty, I was hoping someone else could translate the text.

A certain WP moderator might be able to help you there.

i tried to look for a bigger/better resolution version of the OP's image, or just another image of the tattoo in general, but i had no luck.

all i can really see clearly (with the nekudot) is

שנאשפיר

which doesn't really mean anything as far as i know. "shenashpir"?

of course that final resh could be a vav, (ו) again, i can't make it out clearly. there also seems to be another shin, an a mem MAAAYBE followed by a final "yod". otherwise that mem would be a mem sofit, but it doesn't look like it.

^I think the word might be:

שנאשפירשמין

Does that help?

Maybe it's supposed to be read from left to right:

נימשריפשאנש

Is that a word or name?

Unfortunately no idea.
I read it as
שנאשפירשצך
Since there is an aleph in the middle of the word it may be borrowed from a different language, it also may be an acronym (like first letters of some sentence), I even thought it may be something in Yiddish but I don't think so...

I don't know any Hebrew. Anthony Armstrong's tattoo might read

rock hard play hard

I main hebrew

From what I can see (the picture is pretty bad)

שנאשפירשמי

if you seperate the letters you could possibly come up with 3 words, I'm really overtrying here but

שנא שפיר שמי

which would translate to "Shna Shafir (is) my name. "

Shafir is a hebrew sir name

"Shna" or "Shana" however it is pronounced either way has no meaning what so ever which leads me to believe this has no meaning and the tatoo is gibberish 99%. Maybe he just likes the lettering. They do look nice.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I think I know why the tattoo is so hard to read. Maybe the tattoo isn't a Hebrew word at all, but something written in a similar language (Aramaic, Yiddish, Ladino, etc.). Does this help shed some light on the mystery?

Don't know about the others.

But it could be Yiddish because historically Yiddish is written in the Hebrew alphabet.

Yiddish is a naturally evolved language spoken by the Jews of Eastern Europe. Basically medeaval German spoken by Jews as they migrated past Germany into the Slavic countries farther east during the middle ages. And it became the lingua franca for Jew to communicate with each other between their communities scatterd across Russia and eastern Europe. Then during the 19th century a bunch of rabbis and scholars got together to make Yiddish into a written language- so they figured out how to transcribe the sounds of Yiddish (a Germanic language unrelated to Hebrew)into the Hebrew alphabet (so it could be used in newspapers etc).

Looks like: "רוק קשה לשחק קשה" -- "Rock Hard Play Hard"

It is not Yiddish or Aramaic. Ladino is medieval Spanish spoken at the time of the inquisition, when the Jews were expelled. The Sephardic equivalent to Yiddish
שנא Sinah
Means hate in Hebrew.
Safir שפיר
Can mean goodness
שם shem
name
It's not from the Torah as far as I know and not from Kabbalah. ( I actually translate kabbalah lessons from Hebrew to English) It's not a proper sentence
Maybe some satanic cult stuff? Or gibberish
It looks impressive though :D
