Have four of them. It is legally required where I live. I'm thinking about getting a couple more.

I have one. They are legally required in New York State, too.

I live in a 650 square foot apartment; one is all you need.

Three and a fire extinguisher.
I use woodheat, lights for reptiles, and I tend to get distracted easily and forget somethings on the stove.
The one on the kitchen goes off if the oven door is opened and the ceiling fan isn’t on.Makes me jump every time it goes off.
A necessary evil.

I do not use smoke detectors but rather carbon monoxide detectors. I heat my home in the winter solely with firewood. It can sometimes create a little smoke in the house and generate way too many false fire alarms. Carbon monoxide detector are more reliable.

Of course I do! No responsible person wouldn't have at least one in their home. :)

When I moved in here 3 years ago, the smoke detector in my hallway kept going off when I took a shower, Weird? When I make toast a few times, the smoke detector in the kitchen went off cuz I used to burn toast.
