"We'll retain your resume in our database"

I'm currently looking for work and it's pretty awful.

Some of the rejection emails I've received claim that the business has put my resume into their database in case any other suitable positions appear. I've never had a call back from anyone who says that, so I'm beginning to suspect it's a lie that they use to pacify frustrated jobseekers.

Has anyone ever received a job offer from a business that retained your resume?

A few months ago I received a text message offering me work from an agency I had applied to about 5 years ago. It's not the only time it's happened, either.
