Do you guys actually believe that swearing can really make you more smarter and honest than those who don't use them? And why?

Well, to start with, I'm going to say 'no', because, even in my chagrin, swear words are just words many people say, usually when angered or surprised. If that was true, then how come there are people who say them even when they're being dishonest (e.g. internet trolls), and when some of them aren't really that bright (no offense)?

Sorry, I have this going on in my mind for quite a while, and it's really concerning me. I just don't understand how saying just those foul words and nothing else can actually make you more intelligent and truthful. It just doesn't really make much sense to me. :? :(

I never heard such a crazy idea in my life. I'm pretty sure my own already low IQ has dropped because for the past couple of weeks I used some words I don't normally use on WP. They got censored anyway, but still. I'm lucky I still know my ABC's and can go potty by myself.

When people swear all the time it makes me think they the opposite of intelligent. Especially when half of the swears they use are misspelled.

I don't think so, because I'm the type of person who cusses practically as often as I exhale (almost never in public), and if it made one smarter, I would've been a friggin' rocket scientist, by now!!

I think it could mean a person is more honest. We all swear in our minds and those who swear out loud are actually letting out their true thoughts and not trying to cover anything up by being polite. That's why I think someone who cusses might be more honest and forthright. Just a thought. Crap.

Swearing makes people believe that you don't have enough of a vocabulary to come up with a more suitable/colorful word for anything.

It makes people seem utterly ignorant, and without intelligence.

I swear all the time, and I'm as dumb as a brick.

So, no.

^ I believe this behaviour should be excused.

If swearing is indeed a marker of lower intelligence, our darling Q is a drooling single cell.

It is concerning you because you've somehow taken this 'nothing else' angle.
I swear. I am intelligent and relatively truthful. Correlation is not causation.
So now it makes sense.

You can get along very nicely not swearing.
Other people can get along f*****g and c*****g their way through the day.

To each is own, dannyboy.

No, you swear only because you want to, and you're intelligent and truthful not because of how you talk, it's only because you simply made that decision for yourself to be one.

I'm sorry, I don't understand that last part.
'made that decision for yourself to be one'.
To be one what? :?:

Or is it simply to be One, in the Kura sense. One with the universe.
Namaste.

Is this a trick question?

1) No, swearing does not make you smart.
Unless ... as a student of Shakespeare, for example,
you can teach a class on all the swear words
in the plays that people have no idea of what they mean.
I was actually taught about Shakespearean swear words in college.

2) As for the honesty part, there's such a thing as
too much information.
Just because I know how people swore in the time of Shakespeare
doesn't mean I have to walk around proving it
by uttering the swear words.

The question implies that there are folks around who make those claims.

Who ever said that using cuss words causes you to be "smart and honest"?

And are you claiming that using cuss words is the cause? Or are you saying that it is the effect?

Swearing is an artform.

Those who are not able to swear properly fall back upon censorship.

Ban all words or ban none.

I didn't swear in this post.
