how on earth can you make enough blowing-force to effectively dry hands and not be loud?

Well, some guns have silencers and can still shoot, so I'm sure they can come up with something to quiet hand dryers.
Dryers and guns are two completely different things -- the latter is a split-second explosive discharge, while the former is a constant whirr of a motor spinning for several seconds. Even IF it could somehow be silenced, there's not only the potential drop in efficiency, but also the cost to manufacture. Plus... wouldn't it be a far simpler solution if anyone affected by them wore noise-cancelling earmuffs/earplugs instead?

Silencers don't effectively silence guns. It's a myth and you may get a 20-25 dB reduction in an AR15 5.56 MM platform. For example, my AR shoots 167-168 dB un-suppressed and suppressed is 140 dB with 55 GR ball ammo. Either way, you still need hearing protection.

But back on topic... The energy efficient and quiet hand dryers I used at the hospital are very effective. But the design is completely different then standard models. You would stick your hand down inside and they turned on automatically.

I like hand dryers. Paper towel sometimes leaves paper pieces stuck to my hands. But some "turbo" air dryers like Dyson Airblade should be banned. They're terrifying! :(

I'm okay with the hand dryer pictured here

This one is not so loud. The local McDonald's has this one in the restroom.

I looked that one up and the Dyson air blade, both are virtually the same around 80 dB.

I wish... Some of them are so loud I feel like my head is going to explode. I can't think and everything is pain. Paper towels are so much nicer. I understand hand dryers are better for the environment but I'll usually wipe my hands on my clothes rather than use them unless it's particularly cold.

This also came up in a quick Google search:
Dimplex ONE Series Commercial Hand Dryer. Quiet (55dB)

55db is definitely better than 80db.

I think that there are a lot of worse things that should be outlawed. Not that it will change anything, and then there are the harmless things that *are* outlawed. Like Kinder's Surprise Eggs in the US and blue jeans in North Korea. I wear blue almost every day and they're not even really an American invention.

I'm a cleaner myself, and I'd say part of my job will be easier if there was more hand-dryers.
I've done cleaning at the 3 jobs I had & the dryers were easier.

On a weird note ,I can't get the electric dryers to come on half the time.Ive tried holding my hand under them, waving it etc...The motion sensor or whatever dosent seem to acknowledge my presence.
I cant get the automatic papertowels to give me one half the time

Hand dryers aren't really more hygienic than paper-towels, in fact, the warm air can actually stimulate bacterial growth, or so I have heard.

No one likes the loud ones. Burn down the factory as a warning to the other manufacturers.

Maybe without the soap, but the soap is meant to kill the bacteria.

I use both paper towels or hand dryers in public restrooms.

Just because the noise that hand dryers in public restrooms creates makes you uncomfortable does not mean they should be banned at all.

what was that, a personal favor? turning on the hand dryer for me?

seriously. some precious lil "people" truly see themselves as morally innocent, entitled, awesome, cool, smart, wise, perfect.

it's odd, but i'm pretty sure he was just trying to be nice. nothing more.

_________________________________________________________________________________

yes, maybe he was "just trying to be nice."

although, i would imagine it might've been more "nice" of him of he were to have talked less.

anyways, it seems, to me, that it was more "nice" for me to give him the toilet, than for him to turn on the blow dryer for me.

_________________________________________________________________________________

it is much easier to turn on the blow dryer, than it is to make a bowel movement.

especially for me. making a bowel movement takes a lot of energy and time. turning on the blow dryer does not.
