What happens when you change your nickname?

I just changed my nickname. But I still see my username. Will people who know my username still be able to easily find my profile?

As a matter of interest, does anyone here know the difference between one's WP 'username' and 'nickname'? I'm not even sure whether I have a nickname, or whether it's the same as my username. Never seen a clear explanation of this.

I think the nickname feature doesn't work because it didn't do anything when I tried it.

I also tried it because I don't like my original username which cannot be changed. I selected my new nickname to be my display name but it does not work.

I'm wondering about this, too. I wanted to change my username when I started actively posting (I was exclusively a lurker for years - too nervous to post anything). I just used my two main obsessions at the time I created my account, but I've thought of something better. I tried adding a nickname and selecting it to be displayed, but nothing happened.

Me too; I posted before, years ago, and don't want to lose my history, but just wish my display name could be different.
