Anyone ever hear a song whose lyrics, (while maybe not the intended meaning of the artiest) get you thinking about a host of interesting or relatable topics?

I think the Goo Goo Dolls has a few good ones: "all we are it what we are told, and most of that's been lies"

and so on.

Good reference from the Goo Goo Dolls. I haven't listened to them in awhile, but I added them to my list of artists to download and update my tracks. :)

The lyric you referred to made me think of one from Ellie Goulding, from her song The Writer.

"Why don't you be the artist, and make me out of clay?
Why don't you be the writer and decide the words I say?
'Cause I'd rather pretend
I'll still be there at the end
Only it's too hard to ask, won't you try to help me"

Yeah, Goo goo dolls has some great phrases. "what you fear is your desire." "swallow all your bitter pills, that's what makes you beautiful."

Third eye blind has great music and lyrics too, but most of them are super personal and not as repeatable that the Dolls. good wordplay though "a footnote in your dance of days"

I'm not sure if that's what you mean, but there are plenty of... valid thoughts in "All is One" by Orphaned Land alone, such as:
"Shall we re-live the pain of wars before?
Or shall we be the light, the new folklore?"
"The awakened ones are nothing but a few
And the one to make a difference now is you"

From the same album, a song called "Let the Truce be known":
"As two kids who always spent
Their time and played with toy guns in their hands
There you stood in front of me
They taught me that you're my enemy
And when our eyes have met
We both set sails to death
With guns of grown up men..."

My MP3 player just switched to a song with lyrics:
"The bird of my sould flutters his wings
But the island of peace is not found"
A bit like the state of my soul, even though the song refers to something slightly different...

And something from the new album of Linkin Park:
"Who cares if one more light goes out?
In the sky of a million stars...
Who cares when someone's time runs out?
If a moment is all we are...
Who cares if one more light goes out?
Well I do."
