All you have to do is "be yourself."

When I am myself, I am an amiable "joke."

People like it when you can laugh at yourself.

I've never thought of a joke before and never told one.

You have to be quite talented to come up with an original joke , most jokes are just rehashed from older jokes. Telling a joke can be quite daunting if you have social anxiety in case you mess it up especially if involves a story telling aspect , I cant tell you the amount of jokes I've murdered because I revealed the punchline too early or just completely lose my train of thought - which can be funny in itself if you are able to laugh at yourself when you tell people your crap at telling jokes. I use a lot of deadpan sarcasm/humour because sometimes it's a way for me being honest and getting away with it because people think I'm joking , no good on a forum though ( still learning ).

It's just not something that I'm good at. And I don't think about it too much.

I like the Bee Gees song "I Started a Joke."

Which reminds me of an old Kenny Everett joke which I can't tell you as I'll mess it up but it involved the Bee Gees and a play on words with massachusetts ( mass of chew sets ).

I bet, with practice, that you can be a really good joke-teller.

I am under no illusion that with practice I could excel in most things , my hyperfocus amazes me sometimes but if it involves a social aspect I'm not interested , having said that I learnt a lot of close up magic tricks as it helped in social situations but I nearly always revealed how I did it which essentially ruined the whole point.

I believe there's actually lots of a sort of British, subtle wit within you.

Understated.....but definitely there.

Whenever I've tried to tell a formally structured joke, with a punchline and so on, it's fallen embarrassingly flat, because of self-conscious delivery and my inability to relate to the 'group dynamic'. I've tended to be more successful with 'off the cuff' one-liners though.

I suspect this is very much in line with the experience of most people in this thread and on this forum.

Define joke please. Isn't anything said that is intentionally designed to make people smile or laugh, a joke? Sometimes people say things that are inadvertently witty and result in a laugh. That's still a joke I think. What about those things that people say "you're joking right"? and you actually are. You're messing with them ... joking with them. Not "hahha" funny, but a joke. I've never told a "there were three guys" type jokes, but I have a wry sense of humor and have been known to share observations that will result in a laugh. I think that's fundamentally a joke, right? That's more or less what comedians do no? Share witty observations about the world around them?

No, I forgot. I did repeat a "joke" recently because it was very true. You'd might have to ride horses to appreciate it.

"How do you make a million dollars with horses"
"Start with 10 million"

wa wa wa wah....

I'm pretty good at telling jokes. I try to feel the mood of where I am and play off that. I also really like making puns in addition to ridiculously absurd snarks.

In Toastmasters, I have given humorous speeches about the behavior of my pets, which were very well-received. I also gave a speech about the day I began tennis lessons, which people liked, too.
