I'm a sixties fan in general, but I've got to save most of my love for The Beach Boys, notably Brian Wilson (genius!). Are there any other fans of the Wilson brothers and co. here?

I am. I think my favorite son is Fun, Fun, Fun. As I write this, Surfin' Safari is playing on Pandora.

I love the Beach Boys -- I think Brian Wilson is nothing short of a genius, when you listen to the beautiful compositions he was capable of.

Favorite songs: Caroline No, Let Him Run Wild, God Only Knows, Surf's Up, Help Me Rhonda, so many more.

Yep....I like most of the Beach Boys stuff.

I like their early doo-wopp type songs. "409" being an example.

I think off of the back of Pet Sounds alone Brian Wilson is easily one of, if not the greatest musicians of the 20th century. I'd struggle to pick a favourite BB song, but Don't Worry Baby gets frequent play time

I never really got into much of the Beach Boys "softer" material---until recently.

I had always thought of them as a "good time band." I was shocked when it turned out that Brian Wilson was a real musical prodigy.

There are certainly two sides to the music of the Beach Boys -- they do have tons of great "goodtime" songs, simple but well executed pop songs that were totally "summer fun" type of songs.

But the more serious side of the Wilson compositions are works of musical sophistication right up there with any other serious artist of the era or any era really. His harmonic structure, chord progressions, lyrics -- there is astonishing depth and beauty in those more contemplative songs.

Both the fun songs and the more thoughtful songs are brilliant works.

I'm not a Beach Boys fan, but their music will always be better than most of today's music!
