The latest studies suggest that the waist to hip ratio is a better indicator of cardiovascular problems than the old BMI or body mass index.

My waist to hip ratio works out to 0.81

BMI is just putting your height and weight in one number.

two people could be the same height and weight and one could be fat while the other muscular.

percent body fat is a better measurement.

yeah i tried to explain that to the community college licensed clinical social worker.

she was not receptive. maybe she did not know what a percent was.

she ought to get fired.

allegedly BMI is misleading for extremely tall men and extremely short women. and the pregnant.

BMI is not as useful as it claims to be. but in some cases it could serve a function.

actually i think whoever invented BMI wanted to come up with a method of measuring  density :jester: . and density could be useful.

but of course, the irregular shape of the human body. without fluid displacement it is hard to measure the volume of the human body.

so they just simplify it with one dimension: height.

BMI is useless in my opinion. You just put in your weight, height and it gives you a number. If I measured properly (which I probably did since clothes are my special interest and in order to buy clothes I need to know my measurements) my body fat percentage is 28.(I forgot the number)% which is in the acceptable range. I exercise and eat healthy. Heck, I'm going to the gym starting in November once I get transportation figured out.

BMI doesn't calculate genetics, bone density or muscle mass. It doesn't calculate how active you are and how healthy you eat.

Someone could have a large waist and large hips

Someone could have a small waist and small hips

When I was 13 and 20 and gorged a lot due to. Emotional overeating.

(Puberty, academic pressure bullying)

(Homophobia, Structural Engineering, undiagnosed autism symptoms, parental rejection)

My waist appeared to have expanded at a rate faster than my hips

Anyways I am paranoid that it will happen again

Because my nature. Demeanor. Personality

Is emotionally fragile

Prone

Tendency to clinical depression

And anxiety

And no precious lil "friends"

It also does not account for a persons individual weight distribution throughout their body.
