I know I have quite a while to decide, but I would like to have an idea in mind of what I would like to pursue a career for in the future. I definitely want to do something related to one of my interests, so I would appreciate it if anyone wanted to give suggestions on what types of jobs exist related to my interests. My "special interests" include Stampy Cat (and the games he plays- Minecraft, Minecraft Story Mode, etc.), Autism, and genetic disorders. My "interests" include violin and .........(I have some other small interests but they aren't something I would want to pursue a career in). :D

...I guess you're not allowed to aspire to go to college if you're crippled as I am ~ That's what Dr Who on this forum tells me :( .

I'm sorry somebody tells you that you can't go to college- why do you let them stop you? You could even go to an online college.

What do you think I should study?

You are 13, do you need to choose things yet?

No, but it would be nice to have a general idea.

But how can you know?

Take a balanced spread of many subjects until you know which you wish to specialise in.
Cover the bases as they say.

Yeah, but that's boring :D (no offense). I would love to work with people who have ASD, so I'd rather skip the "cover the bases" stage.

You are 13 though.
You will be different at 14,15,16,17 and 18.
Keep your options open, they change more than you can ever imagine.

What if I'm almost 14?

Then you need to transmogrificate from 13 to 14.

It makes zero difference.

You are going to be a different person. accept it.

after the 2008 recession, a lot of people with Bachelors degrees and higher work at jobs that do not require degrees.

and they have to pay back a lot of student loans.

someone told me he worked as a software engineer seventeen years. Oracle. then his whole division got laid off. he had to work at Trader Joes stocking shelves for one year. then after that he worked as a precalculus tutor. (barely above minimum wage). it has almost been one year.

society acts like everyone has to go to college.

college has pros and cons.

there are alternatives.

having said that, based on your special interests thus far:

biology
psychology
music

but you are only 13. by the time you are 18, your skills and interests will have changed.

plenty of students change majors in college too.

besides you could get a bachelors in one subject and a masters in a different subject.

you could double major.

a lot of things can change in five years.

put more energy into being 13.

quite frankly, i am 34. and i regret not enjoying my teen years.

my precious lil "parents" made me take the SAT in 7th grade. they made me memorize 10 to 20 SAT words per day, over the summer. between third and seventh grades. and between 10 and 20 SAT words per week. over the school year. between third and seventh grades.

in 7th grade, got 1040 on SAT. the average for 12th graders was 1012. got barely above average. seriously.

but i was clinically depressed. bullied in junior high school. puberty. Gender Identity Disorder. and et cetera. besides the school that i went to, had low standardized test scores.

but whatever.

and when i started college, majored in Physics. quickly realized that was too hard. Structural Engineering. fourth year flunked out.

so. what did i end up with?

BA Cognitive Science

cognitive science is not that different from psychology.

just ucsd? just a bachelors? just cognitive science? six years to graduate? 2.19 GPA? at that time, zero internships or related work experience? zero social network?

and that was what i worked my ugly fat stupid butt off, when i was in seventh grade for?

seriously though

yeah i think that, it could be a good thing for you to think about what you want to major in and what kind of job you want.

however, it is also good for you to live in the moment. make the most out of being thirteen years old.

you never get a chance to be thirteen again.

and i would trade that, for my (not so high anyways) SAT scores.

Mainly, but not exclusively, people come to you to see if they have a genetic disorder or discuss the chances of them/their family member having one. I think this is a good explanation:
Genetics Home Reference: What is a genetic consultation? wrote:
A genetic consultation is a health service that provides information and support to people who have, or may be at risk for, genetic disorders. During a consultation, a genetics professional meets with an individual or family to discuss genetic risks or to diagnose, confirm, or rule out a genetic condition.

Genetics professionals include medical geneticists (doctors who specialize in genetics) and genetic counselors (certified healthcare workers with experience in medical genetics and counseling). Other healthcare professionals such as nurses, psychologists, and social workers trained in genetics can also provide genetic consultations.

Consultations usually take place in a doctor’s office, hospital, genetics center, or other type of medical center. These meetings are most often in-person visits with individuals or families, but they are occasionally conducted in a group or over the telephone.
