Philosophically-speaking.....

Which would you rather be: an unhappy human being or a happy dog? Why?

Depends on what you mean by "happy"

There are five main emotions. Happy is just one of them

No one is happy or unhappy all the time

Having said that, I would not necessarily prefer being a human over being a dog

I just happen to be a human

Yeah I do not like "most people". But I fear dogs

Some owners treat their dogs like the dog is more important than humans. "She won't bite. She's so cute".

And they do not put the dog on leash

philosophically speaking, if I were a happy dog, I weren't me.
If I were a happy human, I weren't me either.

so the question must be: would you prefer being, or rather not be ?

I think some bard or something might have wrote about that, among others.

The solar system contains plenty of animals. Some animals are happier than others

Nobody is happy all the time

Some animals have more simple lives than others

Having a simple life has advantages and disadvantages

Lives were simpler before cars and cell phones.

But you can't measure simplicity

Cars and cell phones have advantages and disadvantages

Advantage:. You can easily go somewhere that would otherwise have taken a lot more time and energy. You can carry large heavy merchandise

You can talk to someone even when you are not at home

Disadvantages. Car crash. Drunk drivers. Cars run over pedestrians

Some precious lil "people" will call you every time they have the slightest thought or emotion.

For example, a couple years ago, a precious lil "friend" and I went to the park. And I went to the outhouse

She had the nerve to dial my phone number. It was just a couple minutes after I sat down

The outhouse might not have had phone reception

I might not have had a phone

I could have dropped the phone in the toilet

So I told her I would have preferred for her to come in and talk to me. Instead of phone call. And she said then she would have been intruding on my privacy

If you do not have a cell phone, it makes it extremely difficult for someone with a cell phone to arrange to meet you in person.

But whatever

In her defense, she is by far not the only one that is totally addicted to the phone

And she saw herself not just as justified but as good, correct and perfect

How did anyone arrange meetings with anyone, during the era where only doctors and drug dealers had cell phones?

Precious lil "people" that get on the phone. Every. Single. Time. :skull: they have a thought or emotion make me want to

I'd rather be the dog. Why? The family dog usually got better treatment than I did.

I don't know, I guess I just can't imagine myself as being anything other than human.

I value so many typically human things such as science and knowledge more than I value happiness or feelings.

I would expect an unhappy human has the potential to seek to change that condition and move toward happiness.
Would expect that dogs do too.
But I would go with the unhappy human.

Yeah, this is, pretty much, the way *I* feel about it. Some dogs (though I LOVE them) don't seem to have much "power to reason"----whereas, a human can figure-out why they're unhappy, and work to change that. For that reason, I'd rather be an unhappy human----cuz, it seems unlikely that something wouldn't come-along and ruin "happy" for the dog, and he, possibly, wouldn't know how to change / fix it. 'Course, with some dogs, all they need is for their master to come home, and that's enough to make them, all happy again (LOL), but.....

It's true....most likely the "unhappiness" a human feels is temporary.

I would enjoy many more things as a human than if I was a dog.

Dogs have a shorter lifespan. So that's pretty much a deal breaker for changing to that species.

They don't know they have such a short lifespan however. They are happy while it lasts! I would miss being able to talk though, and would have to express myself through frequent barking!

I wonder if anyone wants to be a happy cat? (I wouldn't catch any mice, however: I'd do other cat things though...

Yeah, humans can be happy but we have so much to think about - sometimes that can be a pain rather than a blessing!
