Socialism is meant to be a transitory period between capitalism and communism. It goes without saying that choosing to adopt that system rather than move into communism will make it fail. Communism can't survive as just being in one country too. Capitalism is just too powerful. It was meant to be a worldwide movement.

I'm a Marxist so no I don't hate Socialism. I used to be an anarchist but could never justify a society without governance, although I have little faith in any political party these days.

not conservative either, yeah ...

I'm studying political sciencies at college, and most of my teachers would say that anarchism is a form of socialism (excluding anarcho-capitalism of course). I don't know if I agree with them but I see where they're coming from.

I do not support socialism. In fact, I do not support any kind of authoritarianism.

I think socialism works in small countries with plentiful resources where democracy is maintained... I always think of Holland, which I believe is a democratic socialism kind of system.

The problem is, in the US... we're founded on capitalism and we're too big for a government to be efficient at understanding what the people actually need. Often times government services cause a false sense of security that keep people from putting real efforts into helping one another. "The government will take care of the homeless problem".

The truth is though, my political interests are more on the social side. My opinions about financial politics are weak and I could care less if we went to a signal payer system for healthcare TBH. Would it be better to keep a free market system? sure... would I mind if I didn't have to worry about my healthcare options... meh... probably not.

Do I care greatly that we have an drug war that puts a larger percentage of the population in jail than any other 1st world country, that kills and disadvantages people of color in a grossly unfair way? Absolutely!

Personally I would take Bernie Sanders over Trump any day, but Gary Johnson or Rand Paul would have been 10 and 5 times better respectively than the good parts of the former two put together.

It is said by economists and geo-politicos that socialism/communism works well in small communities of less than 100 residents. Any more or less than that ideal population seems to foster dissent, doubt and hostility. What worked well initially with the American Puritans of the early 17th century fell apart rapidly as their success was learned by still more immigrants arriving daily.

In my state, we tolerate polygamy (absent any abusive conditions). To stay out of harms way, these polygamist communities create small villages in out-of-the-way areas where needs like food distribution are wholly shared among all the residents. So, in a way, this proves the point of the economists and geo-politicos.

But, of course, other problems like child abuse and extortion have been created with the egos of community leaders. Maybe there are serious risks with all economic models.

If you hate socialism, then you probably have no knowledge of it in the first place and there is a full variety of socialism ranging from capitalism with social policies to libertarian socialism to full-on Marxism.

See I call myself a social libertarian which tends to be a mildly socialist libertarian. How about you study the diversity of political views before making black and white assumptions.
