I just purchased a 12 pound weighted vest. I walk a lot and I heard that carrying extra weight on your body while you exercise burns more calories and helps you lose more weight. I walked for an hour with the 12 pound vest and it felt like I got an intense workout just by walking. I can usually walk 10 miles or 3 hours. I plan to use the weighted vest when I ride my bike and when I go to the gym.

I don't know, but it makes sense to me. The idea is based on resistance training. Though I'm not sure about using it while in a gym.

You will burn more calories, but not enough to make a very large difference in how fast you lose weight.

I think the difference is about 2/3%

As a cheaper alternative I'd suggest walking to the supermarket and carrying shopping bags home.

Well the vest has weight, so technically it’s an extra 12 pounds! Just kidding, that’s not how it works.

Depends on what excersise you do with it on, but it certainly burns more calories, thus speeding up weight loss. Your muscles will have to work harder, and in the case of just walking, the usually mostly uninvolved core and back muscles will be incorporated more.

Bottom line is, if your sweating and eating right, weight loss is inevitable. I lost 80 lbs in 2016/17 over about 9 months time by just working out 4 days a week and creating a significant daily calorie deficit.

I think if you're going to get a weighted vest, at least get one that's bullet proof so it'll serve a real purpose.
