First thing that comes to mind when you think of the 1990s

I think of the first Gulf War.

The beginnings of the Terrorist Era.

The advent of the Internet for many in the mid 1990's. How revolutionary it was. Even if it was "dial-up."

Video games started getting more realistic-looking.

Beepers, rather than cell (mobile) phones.

The transition from VHS to DVD

Saying something that sounds nice but then turning it into the opposite by adding the word "not!". For example, "I really like your new shoes...not!" I believe Wayne's World made this really popular.

I still say this sometimes, and then I think "Oh that's so nineties!" and get slightly embarrassed.

Being very anxious and obsessed that the world would be ending soon, especially with all the hype about Y2K, even though I knew I was being stupid (maybe).

Knowing it wasn't going to be midnight at the exact same time all over the world on Jan. 1st, 2000, and wondering why other people didn't seem to realize this.

Seeing cute little plush toys of the Y2K bug, wearing little t-shirts that said things like "Let's party like it's 1900", and wondering why they'd make a cute toy of something that was supposed to end up killing everyone.

The home I was staying in filling all the sinks and bathtubs with water in case of a Y2K-related emergency on the last day of December 1999, even though they no longer felt it was likely.

People everywhere breathing a sigh of relief on New Year's Day 2000... and until *it* happened.
