Heya, folks of the forums.
I've got this question in my mind for longer than I can remember:
Why do people emphasize on the traits that separates them from other people instead of emphasizing on the traits that connect them to the rest of the world.
Like, a lot of people are like
"I am [insert ethnicity here], and am from [insert random country here]"
Instead of being "I am a human, who was born on the same planet as everybody else".
Why?

Because the former carries less information.

Because the rest of people are inferior.

Because humans have variety and were born in different places on the planet. There's nothing really divisive about that fact itself.

Because nationality, ethnicity and culture are important parts of most people's identity and background. What separates people are part of who they are, what makes them them, and who they identify with. While it may separate them from some others, it also makes them closer to some others. Most people naturally think like that.

I don't think I ever think of myself as human, I think of myself in terms of personality, family, things I identify with (3 of the most important being female, aspie and western/European) and stuff I am interested in.
