A gun which throws cats could be dangerous.

Thanks. This topic can do with the odd bit of lightness. That being said, there is a thought that kept returning to me as I read over the past 11 days the familiar refrain of "nothing to do with guns, it's mental illness and we can't stop people being mentally ill" refrain. It's very problematic logically. New Zealand, the UK, Canada, perhaps every country in the world has its own share of nutcases. The USA doesn't have the corner on that. Perhaps there is a higher incidence of nutcases in the USA though I am unaware of any research that conclusively demonstrates that. So I am going to conclude that the nutcase incidence is about the same. So what is it about the USA that makes it the by-far world's number one country in terms of massacre committed by gun?

There's a simple algorithm that the "gun lovers" can't refute

easy access to weapons + mental illness = murder

In this context mental illness is a "very rubbery" classification when it comes to erstwhile normal folk reaching their "tipping point" in terms of coping before they "reach for their guns"
I think Michael Douglass illustrated the risk nicely in the movie "Falling Down"

And here's something the gun haters can't refute. In fact, as many times as I've mentioned it none of them have challenged it when I've mentioned that the reason guns are so prolific is from legislation trying to ban them.

The best way to slow or even end the proliferation of firearms is for the antis and thier politicians to keep quiet about gun control and find something constructive to do with their time. Make people think that something might be banned and they go out and buy three of them. Once that scare is over they sell two of them to whoever has the money and keep the third. If the ban actually goes through they still sell two of them but at a much higher profit. If there had never been the threat of a ban they probably wouldnt have bought any at all.

If I'd been the owner or president of lets say Bushmaster Firearms from Jan. '09- Jan. '17 I would have made a show of sending Barack Obama monthly personally signed dividend checks from the huge profit increases he unwittingly created just by repeatedly opening his mouth about gun control.

Just recently I went to a very large gun show and they weren't selling diddly compared to how it was during the Obama years. Gee. I wonder why.

Keep quiet about the guns, and the guns won't hurt anyone.

I'll just leave this here...
