Santa Claus being called Father Christmas
Cookies being called biscuits
Candy being called sweets (which I've already mentioned)
Potato chips being called crisps
An elevator being called a lift
A flashlight being called a torch
A sweater being called a jumper
Gasoline being called petrol
Sneakers or running shoes being called trainers
Pants being called trousers
Thick-cut fried potatoes being called chips. But thin-cut or shoestring fried potatoes are called "french fries"
ladies' underwear being called knickers or bloomers instead of panties.

condoms being called French letters
condos being called condoms
flat tires called "punctures"
hood of a car called a "bonnet"
trunk of a car called a "boot"
automotive horsepower and torque figures expressed in kilowatts and nanowebers
the Beeb and having to pay a yearly TV receiver tax
broadcast tv family viewing time called "watershed"
I'm British but I've never heard of "French letters" or "ol' nick". Probably old terms.
And condos are simply called "flats" over here, just like apartments are.
The rest are spot on though ^^
OT. When I think of Britain, I think of the Union Jack

OT. When I think of Britain, I think of the Union Jack
last spoke in the flesh, to somebody from England, back in the early 90s, those were the terms he used as we chatted. when he said "condoms" at first I was befuddled until i remembered what he meant, he was a condo salesman and of the grandparents' generation.
