but all i think of is that it's a boring place to live and houses a corrupt government, though OP didn't say you have to be outside the UK to think of something

my understanding for this is:

Brick is better for building homes in densely populated areas where they are packed in next to each other.

Brick also requires little to no maintenance once built which was preferred in the UK

Bricks could be easily transported all around the UK to wherever needed, whereas in larger countries, like the U.S, the cost involved in trying to transport them would not be worth it when wood was plentiful and close by

also don't forger the effect the Great Fire Of London in 1666 had on things after so much of London was burnt to the ground, they replaced many of those wooden building with brick & stone.
