I do this A LOT and have been doing it since I was young. I stim by clanking my top and bottom teeth together usually when I'm thinking about things. I tend to grind them when I'm either excited or frustrated. I know it's not good for my teeth though, so I feel like I have to stop somehow. Every time I visit the dentist now, they comment on how I have a lot of wear on my teeth for someone my age and really push me to get one of those head gears that are supposed to be worn overnight. I don't think I even do it while I'm asleep though, so I doubt that thing would even help.

Yep....I've been a "tooth-grinder" since I was a little kid.

Um, guess what I was doing when I came across your thread? :P
While I don't grind my teeth or wear them down,
I suppose you could call what I do "clanking" ...
as in keeping time to music I'm thinking about ...
in this instance, along with playing "air keyboard" with my fingers tapping computer keys or the desk
for the melody part of the song ...

It could be a "stim" even if you're not "diagnosed."

And it might not be a "stim" even if you are "diagnosed."

As for my teeth-grinding. I suppose it probably is a "stim" in my case. It gives me a sort of satisfaction.

I definitely ground my teeth a lot as a teenager - you can see it by looking at my teeth.

Now I'd like to think rarely if ever grind, but I still clench my teeth a lot.

I also have a mouthguard that I wear at night, and I definitely both grind and clench a lot with the mouthguard in (even when awake), but at least then I'm not damaging my teeth.

All. The. Effing. Time. I usually grind my back molars and I do it pretty much every hour of every day and I suffer from chipped teeth and lost fillings because of that so I'm trying to transfer this stim into another form.

I want to try and go back to rocking back and forth and tapping my right hand on my right leg like I used to but I'm afraid to do this at work. Because then everyone will see me and my Autistic secret will be out there. And I'm afraid of being compromised at work.

I've had limited success with stim transference so I'm desperately working on this one because my cheek muscles get very sore after grinding my teeth and I'm tired of losing teeth and fillings.

Fairly regular occurrence here.

Yeah it's getting apparent to me that an ASD assessment for mild cases are very subjective due to all the overlaps from other things.

This may sound gross but I like gently clenching my teeth together when they feel 'sticky' (don't worry, I do brush my teeth every day, but they get quite stickyish during the day depending on what I eat). Also when I'm concentrating really hard on something, or if I'm in an anxious rush to get something done, I clench my jaw hard and not realising I've been doing it until after a minute or so.

I had a tooth taken out a few years back and I still can't stop running my tongue in the gap

I ground my teeth a bit when I was younger. I don't do that much anymore. I clack them a lot, though, and always have. It's almost like i have a whole drumkit in my mouth!

Do it all the time, that's why always have hurting teeth.

My sister is an NT and she grinds her teeth too but only when she is asleep.

I grind my teeth a ton, I don't even really notice I am doing it most of the time.
