I find this one a good metaphor for recurring depression (lyrics start around 4:40)

Move Along by the All American Rejects
Scars by Allison Iraheta
Everybody Hurts by REM
Everybody Hurts (cover) by Kelly Clarkson and Pink

Be careful...songs about depression can be inspirational for some, but triggering for others...especially dark, alternative ones that blatantly mention suicide.

That's a good one. I had considered that one for a minute, but I've always thought that song felt more hopeful than depressing. Idunno, maybe it's the chords...and the key change at the end; key changes always feel uplifting.

I was considering In My Darkest Hour too, but I nixed it at the last minute. That song's more angry than depressing I think, and uh...well let's just say the music video hasn't aged well =)

but really most of their songs I've heard can relate to depression, was sad to find when I discovered this band the lead singer killed himself quite a while ago because I only started listening to Joy Division like two years ago....but then looking back on the content I heard was not terribly surprised.
