There have been Duracell battery commercials that claim that they last longer than Energizer batteries. There have also been Energizer commercials that claim they last longer than Duracell.

And you can buy a 12 pack of no-brand batteries for $2 that will last longer than both of them.

I'd pick the brand batteries. With cheap batteries my experience is that you get what the price implies.

How long a battery lasts depends on lots of factors - the battery capacity, what it is made from, how much electricity the device needs, how often you turn it on, how long you leave it turned off for, the local temperature etc. When the makers need a good test figure for an advertisement, they can almost always come up with a test that will favour their product over a competitor's equivalent, and then cover themselves with weasel words like "in typical usage".

"Your mileage may vary" (YMMV), as the saying goes!

One of my parents friend's son did an experiment for a science project where he tested to see which batteries lasted the longest & Rayovac won

To avoid all the variables and never-ending expense, I use Panasonic eneloop Rechargeables.
