I remember back in the early 70s, my dad was the cook for a commercial fishing operation up in Alaska, and he told me that one evening, one of the fishermen came back to the dorms roaring drunk, and was "bugged" by a mosquito that wouldn't leave him alone, and all of a sudden it sounded like a war zone in there as he tried shooting it with his .357 magnum revolver. :lmao:

Did he mount the mosquito's head on plaque, and place it above his fireplace?

The Mosquitos are suppose to be very large in Alaska. If it latched on it could have drained him of a pint or more.

Actually the bugs in the subarctic can be nasty. Mosquitos that can suck you dry.

I remember in my childhood some lady with a guitar (church, or camp, cant place where) singing folk songs to us (a group of kids) . And she sang a song from the Klondike gold rush about "them damned black flies". The narrator of the song could handle any of the hardships of prospecting for gold in Alaska, except for being constantly attacked by "those damned black flies". Never heard it before, and haven't heard that song since.
