Okay, just to tie all of this together....

You have a 14.5 your old boy who was initially diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but has now been correctly diagnosed with autism. Then you have a 16 year old girl who has dissociative disorder due to abuse she received from a perpetrator, and you personally don't know who that perpetrator is. Also, you are on the wagon, and going to AA meetings. Also, your daughter is about to start counseling in order to deal with her issues. In the mean time, she's self medicating on Xanax, along with her friends.

I'd say you have a lot on your plate, and I'd also say my concern about your situation and that of both your kids is only growing, to be honest. How old was your daughter when she was attacked? Was it physical, sexual, or both? How long did this go on for?

I don't know how long or even what went on. My daughter is a fortress so she only opened up to the first therapist she had about three years ago, that therapist couldn't find out because my daughter would not tell her. The specialist that therapist sent us to didn't tell me anything about there sessions so I still don't know anything.

As a side note, from what little I remember the school counselor saying, the school knows the kids are self medicating and they are not doing anything about it so I potentially have a second hornets nest to step into with the school board.

Frankly, at this point, my son is golden, as long as I don't over react to his style of communicating, we do fine at home, in fact, the humidifier episode was our last spat and it wasn't as bad as some in the past.

I really don't know what to do with my daughter, if I freak out and have her thrown in treatment she may go off the deep end. If she really is only using rarely, I think good therapy may bring her to a place where she wants to get help for the drugs. :?

Well, if things are going to be better for your son, that's certainly great, and about all this forum can help you with. I don't know much about dissociative disorder except that there can be three "types" or somebody can have symptoms from all three types in rare cases. I hope you find the expertise you need. Trouble is, there are few experts out there for this type of condition. Only advice I have is to seek out somebody familiar with this type of issue, but I think you'd usually only find such a person in major metropolitan areas.

There are a few DID therapists around here so eventually I will find a good fit.
