But what about those tattered old bills found in the Oregon woods a few years ago?

I thought that that was proof that he crash landed and was dead.

The ransom happened 46.5 years ago.

This is what he looked like in 1971 ... witnesses pegged his age at "mid forties"

If alive, he is likely over 90 years old.

Definitive proof would be a dead body/skeleton. It does seem the most likely option though. He jumped on a freezing night in just a suit. He chose a parachute that you couldn't steer,he couldn't see because the weather was so bad, so was at the mercy of the wind. So he probably ended up in the river, drowned and the body was swallowed forever.
