Today's the day of my assessment. I am sat in a waiting room, my appt is in 15 minutes.
I don't know what to expect so I am understandably nervous. There's a box of Lego, and even though I'm the only one in the room, I'm a bit too embarrassed to go play. But want to lol
I'm here on my own. It's scary. I just hope that whatever the outcome, it's a positive one.

That is really annoying, sorry. Perhaps ask for some kind of plan of what to expect and when so you have some more clarity. Was he easy to talk to though? And at least now you are on the way, right.

Good suggestion.
He probably wants to talk to your mother to see if you had any autistic traits in early childhood.

That's the standard part of the professional autism spectrum disorder assessment. Interviewing the subject's parents (to see what you were like as a child).
