I wonder how others score on this. I've never considered it but did the test several times and it said I had high alexthymic traits-115 .

I scored quite high. It’s not something I really thought about. I know txting and the Internet makes speaking to people about emotional issues easier for me than face to face. I’m not sure if this is an alexthymia thing though.

I got 119- "high alexithymic traits," which surprises me a lot, honestly. I don't think I'm quite that alexithymic, but I'm very critical of my own ability to pinpoint my emotions, and it takes me a really long time thinking them through over and over. It's part of why I obsess on things that cause me a lot of emotions, I think. So compared to others I might not actually be quite that alexithymic?

I'm also a writer and extremely abstract, and the thing about emotions is that they're so abstract that I struggle to put them into words, and perspective is tricky- makes me think of that philosophical question "what if my blue and your blue look different?" My perception of the feeling of "anxious" is probably very different from another's. And I think that leads to misunderstanding, and I'll always find it a tragedy how two people can never absolutely fully understand each other.

I just scored 140. Apparently that means I have high alexithymic traits. Ironically, because of my alexithymic traits, it looks me awhile to be aware that I have alexithymic traits. Also, I think it's one of there reasons why it took me so long to figure out that I'm autistic even though I was told I was by a couple of experts.

I scored 139, which probably means I need to see a doctor after all this ...

I scored 79, which is about what I expected - little to no traits of aleximithimibalalala whatever it's called.

I felt really uncertain about nearly every question on the test. I suspect if I were to do the test many times on different days, I would get completely different results each time.

Of course, you do realize that being unsure of your answers on this test could indicate alexithymia. Also, are you unsure because, like me, you just don't have people around you telling you about your feelings?

In some cases. For the questions about other people, I am often trying to guess.

But also, for the questions about myself, I quite literally don't know how to answer. An example is the second question, "I'm unsure of which words to use when describing my feelings. ". I'm torn between "Agree", "Undecided", and "Disagree". You'd think that I should just answer "Undecided" in that case, but when I start to do that, I then find myself arguing with myself about why it shouldn't be "Undecided".

I'm Undecided on whether I'm undecided.

It's a lot like that for me, too. It seems like having a professional administer the test would be helpful.

I wonder whether seeing your emotions in limited terms is also a sign of alexithymia. I see emotions in terms of happy/sad/anxious/frightened/bored(is that an emotion?). If it's more complex I struggle to identify emotions beyond those mentioned.
