I always get myself in pools gradually. I can't get in quickly. It's freezing cold.

No, I just jump right in.
Your body adjusts more quickly that way.
The sooner you start swimming, the sooner you create heat.
I actually enjoy the plunge.

I get in extremely slowly. I have major sensory issues with both the temperature change and the change from dry to wet. That's also the main reason I hate showering.

If the water is cold it's like knives shooting up my legs and into my eyeballs. If I just rushed right in I think the shock would kill me. It's the worst part of swimming in the summer.

Yes. The pool where I swim the most has steps and I always go down the steps very slowly until I am in all the way.

I also get into pools slowly. I need time to adjust to the cold water.

Yes. I hate the cold. It bothers me viscerally. I get extremely irritable and anxious when I'm cold, or I shut down and stop talking.

I don't think I've ever been in a cold pool before, they are usually pretty warm. Indoor ones are usually heated, and outdoor ones usually get plenty of sun.

Lake Michigan takes me a long time to acclimate to, though. That water is almost never warm. Rivers are always ice cold, too. I think the worst part is when you finally start to warm up, and then you have to go home...so you're walking back to the car with an ice cold shirt clinging to you, and a nice cool breeze blowing on you...brr....
