Red colored nicks

I noticed that some users have their nick marked bold in column Last Post. When I open this profile, this user's nick has dark red color. Moderators have green color and their nick is bolt in column Last Post too. I want to ask what does red color mean?

I'm a little curious about this myself.

I never noticed before. I thought maybe it might be a post-count thing, or how long you've been here, but my nick isn't red, and some have pretty low post-counts.

I don't think it means they are offline.

Maybe they are forum supporters, or people who don't constantly kill threads.

^ that can't be true, because I've killed plenty of threads.

This was queried before and it's just one of the forum's little idiosyncrasies.
I believe it had to do with the joining date - there is a window where users who joined between certain dates were given a crimson baptism.

That's what I heard anyway.

at first i thought it was that bold usernamed people joined before a certain date, and red usernamed people joined after. (or vice versa)

but there were some exceptions and it seems there's a bit more randomness to it after all. one of the great mysteries of WP.

I post from my Kindle so all I see is that some usernames are bold and I don't know why.
