This video recommends that all schools install police alarms in addition to the fire alarms that they already have. People are responding "well, this will lead to prank lockdowns. You know how kids do fire alarm pranks? They'll be pulling the police pull as a prank." and "well, what's next? paramedic alarms?"

It seems like they might could help but I think it would help more to have a cop there all day. The ladder would cut down on bullying which is a very common threat kids face.

Our local high schools all have a police liaison officer on site.
I'm surprised it's not the same in America.

I'm in Oz, north coast.
The liaison officers run educational programs on cyber bullying, drink driving, drugs, alcohol, assault, help prevent truancy, and act as a regular police officer within the school.

People said maybe they should have paramedic alarms, tornado alarms, flood alarms, bully alarms and fight alarms.

I guess since some kids start them as a prank we should never have fire alarms in school, even if there really is a fire.
But I haven't been in school for years so I really don't know. Maybe they should have a please get me out of this hellhole alarm, but I'd be pulling that every chance I got, and not for a prank.

The thing about it is that the name "police alarm" is too generic and might lead to people pulling it during fights or other situations that don't require the school to go into lockdown.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High had an assigned police officer - a sheriff's deputy. He heard the gunshots, and remained safely outside the school. The Sheriff's office suspended him after discovering this, and he resigned yesterday. Link is to the local paper's coverage of this. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/browa ... story.html

Many schools now have panic buttons in the principals' offices, similar to those installed at banks - silent alarm systems. The thing is, you have to get to the button. Easy enough if you're a bank teller, not so easy if you have to get to your office.
