Love him, wish he were still with us, and wish he'd gotten the level of fame he deserved. His music could cheer me up when nothing else could.

And he had the sweetest face... not that that matters, but he did. Afro and all, says this old white gal.

I loved that LP that he put out in the 1970s. I think it may have been called "The Kids and Me". He worked with street/disadvantaged kids from The Projects to engage them in making music with him and the resulting album was outstanding. The song from that album which became a big hit at the time was "Nothing from Nothing" and it was very well accomplished. I thought it was a great iniative and resulted in a great album. We used stereos with built in record players in those days to play them, before tapes and CDs, I'm showing my age again...

Yep. I like him. Too bad at least some of his life was rather tragic. Too bad he couldn't enjoy himself more, since he wanted others to enjoy themselves.
