Maaaaaaybe, or maybe he killed himself and everyone else onboard. Hard to say w/o evidence as both are mere theories. The murder suicide theory sounds more plausible, though... as it explains the "wave," goodbye to his hometown, as well as why he would have flown the plane on a path along international borders in order to avoid radar detection.
