I got a 22. I tried to guess first without looking at the choices, and most of my guesses weren't even given as options. :? I have to wonder how I'd do without the multiple choices to choose from.

I couldn't answer most of them so I just clicked "next".

Hmm. Those with a DX are getting pretty unanimously low scores, while those without a DX are scoring relatively high. More determined now to get this resolved one way or another as I do not wish to parade around as something I might not be according to a test that is rated important in the diagnostic process.

Yeah, that was my experience as well. The emotions that came into my mind were simply not listed, so I went with what I felt was the best option out of those available. And apparently didn't do too badly. Why is it then that in the real world I am totally lost? :? I felt like in these photos there were extra clues, like if the emotion was a darker one, the photos actually were literally more shadowy. Did anybody else notice that? You don't get those benefits in real life. People can be pissed at you under fluorescent lighting. :P

19/36

Considering I guessed on most of them, it isn't too bad, I suppose.

No. The inability to read facial expressions in the context of a test like this is something that has a high incidence among AS populations, but it is not a required part of the diagnostic criteria:

Quote:
(I) Qualitative impairment in social interaction, as manifested by at least two of the following:
(A) marked impairments in the use of multiple nonverbal behaviors such as eye-to-eye gaze, facial expression, body posture, and gestures to regulate social interaction
(B) failure to develop peer relationships appropriate to developmental level
(C) a lack of spontaneous seeking to share enjoyment, interest or achievements with other people, (e.g.. by a lack of showing, bringing, or pointing out objects of interest to other people)
(D) lack of social or emotional reciprocity

(II) Restricted repetitive & stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests and activities, as manifested by at least one of the following:
(A) encompassing preoccupation with one or more stereotyped and restricted patterns of interest that is abnormal either in intensity or focus
(B) apparently inflexible adherence to specific, nonfunctional routines or rituals
(C) stereotyped and repetitive motor mannerisms (e.g. hand or finger flapping or twisting, or complex whole-body movements)
(D) persistent preoccupation with parts of objects

(III) The disturbance causes clinically significant impairments in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.

(IV) There is no clinically significant general delay in language (E.G. single words used by age 2 years, communicative phrases used by age 3 years) (note: this last criteria is under debate and may be revised, if it hasn't been already)

(V) There is no clinically significant delay in cognitive development or in the development of age-appropriate self help skills, adaptive behavior (other than in social interaction) and curiosity about the environment in childhood.

(VI) Criteria are not met for another specific Pervasive Developmental Disorder or Schizophrenia."

My score: 31/36.

I mistook:

- cautious for bored (male)
- anticipating for shy (male)
- tentative for grateful (female; I think the test is wrong on this one; she is gateful)
- pensive for irritated (male; that guy had a crooked eye though)
- shy for hostile (male; that guy had even more of a crooked eye than the last guy or possibly a stroke)

Four of the five missed results were with males.

Good fortune,

- Icarus wears mirrored shades

Yea I don't understand. I got a 26. Is that bad or good. I mean, does it come natural for NT people to get around 36 out of 36. If this is the case, I didn't realize how clueless I really am.

I go by Baron Cohen who is one of the lead specialists worldwide in Aspergers/HFA and who designed the test. Psychologists place a lot of validity on it from what I hear in terms of diagnosing AS.

i recognized a whopping 30 out of 36. O_O
but i felt the same as gwenevyn, the photos themselves seemed to be biased towards what they ought to portray. either it is me reading lots of comics or me being interested in drawing that made this thing kind of easy. what i judged more was (if female) amount of makeup, direction of look and shadow patterns - in relation to how i would have drawn a person with that emotion and whether there were any heavy graphic hints.

diagnosis to low scores ratio doesnt need to refer to the conclusion that only dxed aspies are real aspies but that its easier or more likely to be dxed by a professional if you fulfill this part of the list of six. (indicating sloppiness on the psychologists part, which wouldnt surprise me at all)

I can't really tell how someone is feeling from their eyes... But in real life i can tell quite easily because there is everything else.
