mushroom, thank you for responding. I do not question the validity of your opinion, only whether the existing system has been given a fair shake. Please consider that a community is only as strong as the involvement of its members; if you are not willing to speak up when something is amiss, then it hurts everyone. Taking care of something you value isn't tattling, in my opinion - it's being responsible, versus tattling which to me implies an intent to get someone in trouble over anything else. Thank you for your supportive words, and I will continue to try to and be a positive contributor in this sub-forum when I do have something to add to the conversation.

M.

I'm a man and am in no way offended that women want to talk without the interruption of the oppressor. You want to know about real discrimination? talk to a woman about it and you'd be surprised, I know I was.

Way I see it is these nosey aspies can't walk past s**t without taking a sniff, or in other words if they have an opinion even if it's not wanted they still feel the need to express it due to their huge egos which make them think it's relevant. Get over yourself and leave the women to their chatter, you can still read it so what's the problem?

What a load of feminist hogwash. Men are "the oppressor"? Oh, pleaaaaase ! Most men I know who are in a relationship are totally dominated by their girlfriend, sometimes up to the point I pity them.

When women start spouting the sexist feminist bullcrap you're spouting here, there's no way I'm gonna accept my gender being offended like that....

as a woman, I find this discussion between Salonfilosoof and ZygomaticMajor particularly hilarious. It reminds me of two transvestites squabbling over the mascara.

Oh common, girl. Must you blow my cover, now?!

No seriously.... In what way does our discussion remotely resemble the scene you describe? I don't see it...

anecdotal information such as

does not prove that woman that are not allowed to drive, have to have a clitorectomy and sewn up to be marriageable or married off when 12 or 13 to men old enough to be their grandfathers happens in the world. To state that the term 'oppressors' is frivolous just pains me.

If one is not free, then none of us are free.

A situation in a backwards country run by people with a different ethnic background and only a very primitive socio-cultural background is hardly comparable with the situation in Western Europe. You're comparing apples with oranges.

Bullshit. Different societies are run by different people following different principles. Just because women are oppressed by men in some parts of the world, one cannot generalise man as "the oppressor". In fact, when I look at many Western households today I would rather quality Western woman as the oppressor of Western man.

Well, I didn't call any man 'the oppressor'. ZygomaticMajor did.

Did you read the rules? I didn't think so, yet, you must read the rules to have a membership on this site. In those rules you haven't read you would come across such instructions as :

Conduct
-----------
The following activities are unacceptable on WrongPlanet:

1. Posting offensive language, comments, video, or images.
Unacceptable content includes swearing; racist, sexist, homeophobic language, behavior intended to provoke or belittle other members; violent or sexually demeaning content;

2. Personal attacks.
This includes insinuation, ridicule and personal insults, regardless of whether direct or indirect. Attacking an opinion, belief or philosophy is acceptable, but attacking the person making the comments is not.

3.Other inappropriate content and behavior prohibited on Wrong Planet : anything else that purposely causes conflict with other members.

Please explain how this is relevant to anything that's been said by anyone in this thread, because your point is yet again unclear to me.

In summary. This forum is as it is. It is expected to be of interest primarily to women. There is nothing sexist involved. No posts will be removed, other than in accordance with the rules of WP. If one cannot abide by the WrongPlanet Rules, then one should seek out some other site.
