Hey, guys, I'm having issues with my laptop's optical mouse. I use a mousepad, yes. The problem is that, most of the time, when I drag the pointer from one end of the screen to the other, it will stutter for a couple of seconds, go back to normal, then stutter again, and so on. To explain this better, the pointer will move normally for a few seconds, then it will slow down and shimmy, then go back to normal, then stutter, and so on.

I can't figure this out, because when I take it off the mouse pad and move it around on my desk alone, it moves just fine, but I don't want to scratch up my desk or the bottom of my mouse. Can anyone help me figure out what is going on here?

Get a mouse pad with one color only. Patterns confuse the light sensor.

sorry to hear sterio kid, have ou also checked for dirt or hair on laser light? that canalso do what you are discribing as well, best is to also try a dark colored mousepad such as dark blue or black (something not reflective or brightly colored)

also if mouse is wireless, have you tried resetting the signal and is the mouse within 5 feet of the reciever or anything obstructing it?

also system resources, these use ram to be able to operate smoothly, also check the batteries, tried fresh and does it operate same way with new ones installed??

had a mouse issue this am, DOG ATE THE WIRELESS OPTICAL PUTER MOUSE!! when i got home, mousepad and plastic parts and buttons were in front of her. BAD DOG!! !

Try getting a toothpick and cleaning out your mouse part.
Getting a dark colored mousepad will also help. I would also
clean inside the mouse.

Mine has rechargeable batteries that are recharged via the USB cable, sometimes when the batteries run down the cursor
gets stuck in one place or clicking produces no effect.
