two different things?

My online friend told me acute hearing is when you hear people talking and you can make out what they are saying, same with radios turned down low and TVs. You also know what sounds you are hearing. Sensitive hearing isn't that and you have to have acute hearing to make out what people are saying and knowing what sounds you hear.

I would say your friend is wrong...acute hearing is more of a superior ability, as in more sensitive than average.

acute-having or demonstrating ability to recognize or draw fine distinctions
sensitive-responsive to stimuli
