There was a recent bill proposed in Congress called H.R. 1424 / S. 558, "Mental Health Parity Act of 2007" which would have forced insurance companies and government insurance to cover all 374 mental disorders listed in the DSM-IV. I'm not quite sure why it failed. The emails I got from activist groups implied that passage of the bill would lead to more psychiatric drugging, though it seems that given that increased drugging is already taking place, it should at least not bankrupt the person going through it.
