The Legend of Zelda is pretty easily my favorite NES game.
Aside from that extremely obvious choice, there is a lesser known gem that I love and have replayed dozens of times by the name of The Guardian Legend. If you've never played it but you like Sci-Fi adventure games and top-scrolling shooters, I recommend giving it a try if you have the opportunity. It's the one game that I keep praying they remake for a current generation console. Whatever console they make it for, I would definitely purchase immediately.

I also liked:

I didn't have NES but its Polish clone (a cult one here where I live), named Pegasus. I still have ten cartridges with the NES games and am going to sell them for quite a lot of cash (two of them are highly estimated by the Pegasus games collectors) for which I'll buy some jewellery for myself.
Double Dragon, 1943, Super Mario 3, Castlevania 3, Metroid, and Marble Madness. I have fond memories to this day of beating some of those challenging games at a young age.

I played Mappy yesterday, it was a great fun. Back in the past I had this game once but it was found boring by me then, nevertheless now I love this game even if many NES games fans would find it as boring as I did then, I know, because basically nothing exciting happens in this game. Recently I also played Hook which game I just love (although I didn't manage to get to the very last levels) and I'm planning on repeating this pleasant experience today.
So far, I am in possession of the following cartridges with the games:
- Little Mermaid - one of my favorite ones out of those I have (I like the "feminine" NES games the amount of which is unfortunately small) but it has just those 5 levels which is WAY too little
- Hook - also one of my favorite ones (I truly enjoy the Peter Pan fandom)
- 168 in 1 - a cult Pegasus cartridge in here - contains many classis NES games like Contra, Mario and many less known ones like Binary Land or Lode Runner
- The Addams Family II - I like it for its atmosphere; when I played it in 2009 after a looooong break, I thought it was much less interesting than when I was doing it as a teen but now it's one of my favorite NES games ever again
- The Lost World: Jurrasic Park - boring, let alone that I don't like those "masculine" NES games, I prefer the non-gender specific and feminine ones to them (but for several exceptions like Contra and similar ones)
- Batman II - as above
- The Jungle Book - my most favorite NES game EVER
- Kiwi Kraze - boring and quite childish
- The Flintstones III - really very nice but it annoys me that the character you play with can't jump too high
