So purely for hardcore statistics I want a statistic only that applicable to virgins. Are you a male/non-gay virgin, who suffers from depression? And
drinking makes you chronic depressed. 52%  52%  [ 12 ]
And drinking make your happier. 48%  48%  [ 11 ]

I believe there is a link between chronic depression and the inability to drink without feeling even worse. I believe people who are totally trapped and lonely feel the worst depression.

2. drinking make you happier.

I did break my virginity before I first got drunk. But I felt so trapped and depressed. The drink made me feel so much worse. I also know a friend who avoids drinking because of this problem. I believe that the effect that drink has one one, is a good indication of that person level of depression.

One of my workmates looks like you, he will not let me anywhere near alcohol. Sometimes I am ok, but I do have to assess the situation first.

What he said. I drink so infrequently that I've never noticed any consistent effect.

I thought drinking to alleviate loneliness was mostly an extraverted thing. If I'm lonely, I'm more likely to just end up reading/watching/playing something, or just get lost in my own thoughts. I'd guess that applies to the majority of WP users, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

I can't answer this poll either, as I never have and never will drink alcohol.

I'm 19 (20 in about a week) and I'm not a big fan of being arrested for stupid reasons...

Other than that, I don't like the idea of losing control of my own mind... it just seems so self-defeating, especially when I look at the cases of drunk people being taken advantage of...

I have not gotten drunk when I am depressed. It doesn't appeal to me at times like that and I probably am a little afraid of doing something that I would not have done sober.
I drink very irregularly, so I probably am not a good source of data.
I only drink at home or at my friend's house, so I am in a place where I am pretty comfortable.
Sometimes I get a little down when drinking, but more often I am in a good mood and it helps me loosen a bit with my friends.

I'm no virgin so miss that criteria there but I do often feel like one. I can get pretty lonely but alcohol is one of the things I use to get wrecked and forget about things.
There have been a couple of times recently when I've gone home early giving no explaination to the people I'm with and with no memory of it the next day. Think this may be something to do with me feeling lonely (and maybe helpless to change it?) whilst out!

I don't drink much either. But from what I understand, Alcohol intensifies whatever emotion you were feeling before drinking. So if you drink to alleviate loneliness/depression, that would make it worse. Whereas if you drink with your buddies at a party where you are enjoying yourself, you will be more excited and free-spirited...albeit a little clumsy.

My vigin non drinking friends don't drink for the same reason I didn't when I was a teen. It's less money you can spend on dork junk!

Still its funny when I watch them get all judgemental on booze and theyre VERY unhealthy and addicted to Pepsi.

I will say this. Sex, alcohol, and drugs all came at the same time for me. From the same girl.

I have rarely not being high with a girl I did not end up fooling around with.

I don't do drugs or drink anymore. My dating life has grinded to a halt.
(but I have more money to spend on NEW dork junk)

Let me know how this study goes. I realize I do see a lot of no booze= no nookie examples.

I have an odd reaction to alcohol.

When I drink in small amounts (3 glasses of wine tops) I can focus much better and think very clearly. It calms me down but doesnt make me depressed but you could say that clearing my thoughts and letting me focus even more makes me very happy.

However, when I drink more than that, to get to what people call 'buzzed' or pre-drunk I do get gloomy.
