If you feel that your child needs special education services, contact the special education services office (or department, or whatever they call it) in your district and request that he be evaluated under the provisions of IDEA.

However, I would wait for the doctor. If you are on an HMO, the Dr. may have to wait until they are sure to refer you to a specialist. If after 3 months, the Dr. puts you off again, I would ask why.

He loves you.

His ways of showing it may not be the ones you expect to see. Aspies, and children with autism, love loving parents very much.

Don't beat yourself up for not seeing what you didn't expect to see. The love you give your child is more important.

Put your request for evaluation in writing. They do not have to act if you verbally request. I don't understand why the doc is putting you off. This is the time to work with your son.. Have the doc put in writing the diagnosis and put a letter together.

Are you confused by my post?

It is often said that children with autism do not respond to faces. The evidence of this is the following experiment:

You take a large number of children and hook them up to eeg's. You show them generic pictures of faces. Their brain activity increases. Autistic children's brain activity does not increase.

And people are told that they do not, therefore, respond to people.

However, someone had the bright idea of showing them pictures of their parents, rather than generic faces. Their eeg's went off like the Fourth of July.

He may not be able to make the traditional connections of telling you that he loves you, hugging and touching affectionately, even smiling, right now. But know that he does. He sees your face, and unlike with anyone else's, he responds very strongly to your love.
