famous people with aspergers?
This subject drives me nuts! I disagree with most of these (they had personalities) and don't know anything about the rest. If someone says he or she is autistic, I'm not going to argue about that though.
I think Glenn Gould was said to be autistic. When I was reading biographies I wondered about Greta Garbo and Paul Cezanne. Definitely no to Bill Gates, Einstein, Andy Warhol, Walt Disney . . .
I do a lot of thinking/reading on personality theory, and I'm pretty sure people confuse personality and disability all the time.
This is the first thread i started and this many people have spoken on it
never.. on all the forums i have been on has this many people or just messages apeared in it.
The reason i started the question was to see who was a confirmed aspie so that i could just sort of see others and see how they were getting on with their life.
I was told that einstein and leanardo da vinci were confirmed aspies but it confuses me how people would confirm people as having a condition like that when it is not something that was not known back then...
Bill Gates has aspergers that is on his IMDB profile so he is confirmed to have it.
I was told before hand that he had it and i am sure the person hadn't been on his imdb profile so i guess it is a legitimate claim and he must have said it.

People with aspergers arent disabled.....
They tend to have interests in subjects like computing and also have high IQs' but not always
they sometimes have pointless interests for example one guy knew everything about the titanic and nothing else that was alll he was good at.
the only thing that tends to be a downfall is their social area...
he is abled for that reason and that is why he sort of owns the computer industry

Then why bother having a diagnosis? Autism is in the DSM because it causes people serious problems.
Bill Gates is extraordinarily gifted at organizing people and getting them to pull together. He's also a good salesman. He's the opposite of socially impaired, from what I can see.
I googled but was only able to find people saying they think he might be autistic. E.g.:
at: http://david.sickmiller.com/misc/Bill_Gates.html
And then there's this:
http://www.jonathans-stories.com/non-fiction/undiagnosing.html
Other than IMDb (which anyone can add material to) and some unsubtantiated opinions here and there, there's no evidence for it. So I don't believe it. He's gonna have to tell me himself for me to believe it, and tell me the name of the psychiatrist who diagnosed him, too.
I know nothing about Andy Kaufman, so can't comment on him.
from what i have been reading lately; einstein wasn't aspergian, he was savant.
this is just my personal opinion, but i'm gonna say it:
andy warhol, in my opinion was most certainly an aspergian! please... let us count the traits:
1. highly sensitive to light.
2. poor eye contact. (wore sunglasses most all the time to hide this.)
3. intense interest and devotion to his art. narrowly focused interest; yet prolific.
4. listen to an interview of his sometime: monosyballic in tone, and rambled incesstantly.
5. his art was basically the study of NT culture and the commerciality of modern civilization (yes, he created a new artistic genre of many multitudes; marketing as art, art of celebrity and notoriaty, art of silk screening etc etc etc
6. homebody as a child; spent most of his time at home with his mom, and she taught him all types of art at a very young age.
of course, this is just my opinion, and you can differ if you wish to, it's cool.

also; i have this theory: ok, since aspergers hasn't really been so talked about in the past; kind of little known and little spoken of, a lot of people, both famous and non famous alike, may have had it but were never diagnosed ala great thinkers and artists and writers from the past. this is a given. so all we can do is basically guess yes, no or maybe, and may be never know for sure.

When I read about him, he reminded me of Madonna. I think most famous people are isolated in some way as kids. Famous scientific geniuses have often lost a parent in childhood. A lot of famous people are unusually intelligent and have a hard time finding a peer group when they're young. I think Warhol was home sick when he was a kid, which would have had an impact. Plus I think he was gay or bi, which back then was a big deal. I'd have to look at my notes since I dont' remember much - when I was reading about him I had no clue anyone thought he was autistic, so I didn't pay much attention.
