Think of it as a train with wings. That might help.

I used to avoid flying because I was afraid I would have a meltdown at 30,000 feet, because I am afraid of heights. But once I broke down and started flying I found I loved it. It helps to have a sense of humor and to treat it like an adventure. Actually most of my flights have been rather routine by most standards except for the time I got on the wrong plane. (Stay out of airport bars if you have a long layover). Be flexible.

I bring my entertainment stuff on the plane with me. My CD player and CD case, handheld game system, book to read. Those are the most important items for me to take on the plane, I like entertainment instead of being bored.

The one thing I hate most about airplane flights is other passengers' airsickness. There's nothing that scares me more (except for a possible accident) than someone sitting close to me throwing up. Ugggh. I think that every strange noise on the plane is the sound of someone vomiting. If this weren't the case, I would definitely enjoy flights much more.

The advice I get from my mom is to sleep (she makes dozens of long flights per year). It's not easy for all of us to sleep on planes, myself included, and that is one source of torture. The knowledge that the flight will be over eventually does help me relax a little.

sleeping does help make the flight go faster (i have been to europe which took 19hrs approx on a plane to get to, i live in australia) lavender is good for making u sleepy. u can also try playing the video game system if u take singapore airlines, bring books that u like or music or a game system. get a lollypop or one of those ginger lollies and suck on it when u take off and land. helps with the ear pop problem. get up and walk around every couple of hrs or so if u are on a long haul flight, feels good and prevents DVT. also get headphones from the airline so that u can listen to the music they have playing.

I know this will sound kinky, but bring a spare set of underwear in your carry-on luggage. Shortly before you land, change them. It doesn't make you feel any cleaner, but it does make you feel better...done it meself.

"here to the mainland" - I hate those flights. Nothing but your thoughts to keep you company. That's probably why I don't go home that often. I've always tried to break them up into hours. One hour in my seat, half an hour pacing in the back by bathrooms, one hour in my seat, etc, etc. Then the flight back....ugh...

I feel for you. I’m one of those people who NEEDS to have a window seat.

Boredom is my biggest problem. I can never quite get comfortable in a plane and it’s completely irritating watching other people sleep. I can’t read either because I don’t like the person next to me seeing what I’m reading. Yes, I’m paranoid about people critiquing my literary choices.

My worst experience was being stuck alone in a middle seat for 5 hour red-eye flight. I didn’t sleep a wink the entire flight because I spent my whole time trying to defend my arm rest space from the passenger to my left. Whenever he would fell asleep his arm would sprawl over into my area.

I can’t remember the last time I was actually able to sleep on a plane.

But how do I cope with the endless hell that is a plane flight? It will seem like twelve hours of tortuous hell for me, if it's like most of my other flights. (Exception: Korean Air. Plenty of room, and they treat coach pax like other airlines treat first class ones).

When you are sitting down, look in front of you. You will notice a pouch, pull it and take out a magazine of choice. Read. 30 mins later.

Take another magazine. 30 mins.

*Flight attendent appear with soda and peanuts

Take and munch then listen to Mp3 musics on player. 1 hours later.

Repeat of neccesary.... Push the Call button. Ask for more soda and peanut.

1 hour later.

Watch through window 30 mins

Chat with people next to you 30 mins.

Total 5 hours used on plane

I have not been able to fly for years because of this problem.

Yes Axe Body spray smells like Raid, I also have issues with people who have severe armpit Fugg, the type that gets in your face, I have changed seats to get away from nasal assaults
