When did you convert to your political ideology????

Actually, I have moderated my views slightly. When I was about 3, my Dad started to explain to me where the USSR was and I also learned that communists were evil. When I was 4, maybe almost 5, I was told about how we need to launch a premtive nuclear strike aginst the communist bloc. I did have some idea at the time that a nuke was some type of large destructive weapon. I just didn't know how it would be delivered because I didn't know about those kinds of misiles and bombs yet. I kinda doubt my Dad expected me to retain any of this, and I have no recalection of my Mom objecting to my Dad telling me any of this. My Dad would say something like "what do you do with commees?", and I'd respond "nuke the commees".

Ahhh... nostalgia.

I moderated my views later when I came to understand that the people in the communist countries were basically slaves, and that is was the leaders and their enforcers that were evil. Also I later learned that a premtive strike was not feasible anymore long before I was born. A premtive strike would have been a good idea, but it would have needed to be done by 1953 to avoid suffering (relatively) significant losses.

I remember studying communism USSR and Eastern Bloc countries by 1984 or 1985 thought that communism would end there.

The causes are

1. They Isolated themselves from the economic systems of this world.
2. They could not keep up with the U.S. of A. militarily.
3. They were not manufacturing the right economic goods and services to expand there economy.
4. Since they did not use there military might, they in my eyes were never really a SUPERPOWER.

I've always been a Conservative.

As soon as I learnt that my Dad came over here as an immigrant, I've decided to wage a Holy War on immigrants. I know it doesn't make sense, but then again, I never make sense!! !

I think we need to concentrate on the forgotten majority of this country who should keep all their well earnt money, instead of paying a wasteful state to look after drug addicts, homeless, and other such losers.

We need a new Conservative World Order.

I grew into the family tradition. When young I was pretty right wing, but then saw a bit of what goes on and eventually came to my present position, left of centre.
Ther are plenty of people I know of who have travelled far more widely than I have, who have experienced many more cultures, etc, but because they were "head down and get on with it", or "nose in the trough" as we say in parts of Glasgow, they missed most of the important stuff. Pride in your culture, the accomplishments of your country and so on, I can understand. The dogged insistance that it remain that way forever I don't. Every culture produces mistakes, if we don't recognise them, how do we learn from them?

I'm a democrat, I got very interested in politics as a kid and even though I have moved onto to new things, it still interests me. I lean more toward a socialist/structured idealism though. I don't like things that don't balance out in my mind. For instance I think we should all pay the same % of our income to taxes, I don't understand why they would have some people pay a higher % than others. I do think we should have healthcare for everyone like Canada.
