WOW, SMART DOCTOR! Most are like MY doctors and say you SHOULD wear them all the time. My vision went from 20/25 to one estimate of 20/200! Without glasses, I am actually LEGALLY BLIND, according to the dept of motor vehicles. They define blind as anything worse than 20/50. Each degredation came after the next pair of glasses. 28 years with NO glasses, and 3 pairs within the past 8 years!

MY theory, backed up by actual anecdotes and some studies, is that the eyes get relaxed and weaker and fail to focus. The eyeglasses THEN go from mere correction to compensating for a problem they created.

So I would say LISTEN to YOUR current doctor!

I could always read the bottom row of letters perfectly as a child. My eyesight is still fine (I havent tested if I can still read the bottom row for years), but I wouldnt be surprised if it is gradually degenerating due to age and using microscopes and computers all the time. I guess I will probably need glasses to read with when I get old.

Here's a question what I'm so curious about but can't find an answer anywhere:-

Why do most people with disabilities wear glasses?

Also,

How come the NTs I know who wear glasses are usually really nice?

(I'm not talking about children or old people here)

Me! I love wearing glasses! I have 7 pairs. I have a bit of an obsession with collecting them in different colors.

I used to hate wearing glasses when I was a teenager, but I think they suit me now.

I'm mildly nearsighted. I just recently got glasses, though I've needed them for years. I just put it off for a really long time. I don't drive, and my vision is excellent for close activities such as reading/ writing and working/ playing at the computer. Thus, it never seemed too important to get the glasses. I finally went for it recently, as I've had several people tell me I really need to do something about my vision when I couldn't read a sign that was located a little bit of a distance away or make out the details on items on the other side of the room.
I decided that it wasn't really healthy for me to leave my nearsightedness uncorrected, so I finally made an appointment to see an optometrist, and I was given a light prescription to help me with distance. I was specifically told that I don't need glasses for things like reading and computer work, and I seldom wear my glasses at home, as I have very little need for them in my little studio apartment.

Me too, except I am extremely near sighted, have no perefial vision on my left side, and in addition to a lazy left eye I have stigmatism. People stare sometimes when I have to take off my glasses to read the fine print on a document. I have a hard time with depth perception and judging the speed of things. I have had to learn to rely on my other senses to compensate for my bad vision. Listening to the sound of approaching car engines tells me how close the car is, if it is going to stop, and if it is safe to cross the street. I have learned the feel of the tools I use so that when I reach for a 5/8 lug nut driver I do not by mistake pick up the screw driver next to it. My vision is now so bad that I have to wear bifocals, which on the up side have solved a lot of my eye gaze problems. I just look through the side of the lens that keeps other peoples faces blurry. :D

I was born with bad eyesight and have worn glasses since I was nine (no wonder I used to walk into stuff as a kid). Aside from a couple brief stints of wearing contacts, I've always worn them. They feel like part of my face now, as much as my nose or eyes or ears are.

I am very nearsighted and I have been wearing glasses since I was 10 years old. I started wearing bifocals when I was 45. Glasses are the first thing I put on in the morning and the last thing I take off at night. The only other time I have them off is when I'm in the shower.

Think there's a trend here: Currently doing the EFT eyesight audio series, will post if it helps.

I should wear thick glasses with minus lenses and prisms (and sometimes I do), but I prefer contact lenses. Most accessories bother me. I can't stand scarfs, belts, jewellery, bags and glasses. Wearing gloves is enough.

I'm short-sighted. I don't wear glasses, but I use a contact lens on my left eye.
