Does anyone else here take surprises really badly? Not everyday things at all, what I mean is only the kind of surprises that bring alot of unexpected attention, like a surprise birthday party or something like that. When I say taking it badly I mean something like knowing that its a good thing or understanding that it was meant well but just not having a clue what to do or how to react.. and being kinda freaked out by the whole unexpectedness.... then being freaked out wondering what people must think of your reaction and ending up crying or something? I hope nobody I know sees this!

Or am I just wierd?

You are not weird, or wierd. Well, actually maybe you are, but I don't know you and can't say that on the basis of you having trouble with surprises. Many, many people have that difficulty.

it depends,
if somebody hugs me or touches me to surprise me

I don't like it.

Also, one time (when I got my first kiss) I had not realized what was going on until it was done.
he got me by surprise, but I did like it,
I just couldn't connect at the time he was doing it. It was sort of surreal.

 I take anything unexpected badly (Unless it involves handing me cash).

My wife got mad at me over the weekend because she asked me to run an 1) errand on the spur of the moment, 2) to a place I'd never been before, that 3) required socializing with a total stranger. I kept giving her reasons why it wasn't really necessary and she said "Why don't you just say No?"

I thought: "you know who you're living with, why did you bother asking me in the first place?"

Depends upon whether it's a good or bad surprise, really...

I don't like surprises.
But if it is something I like or like to do it is a lot better.

It depends on peoples definition of surprises. I like good surprises like if someone got me a new game, I'd love that. Surprises also mean something unexpected happening like you get car trouble. Everyone hates that, but us, we take it the hard way while normal people won't get so upset and act like it's the end of the world. They just go "Oh well s**t happens" while we all get in panic and stress and it ruins the rest of our days because we don't feel comfortable because our plans got ruined and we find it real hard to find something else to do and stay focused on that and not worry about the bad thing.

I can remember going to my last day of work last year and instead I was given a going away party. I liked that. I was even given a gift too. Who wouldn't like that?

So I don't deal with bad stuff very well but I managed to do fine when I got in a car wreck and I didn't get so wigged so and have a episode. I was just calm. I wasn't going to get upset until I heard the worst like my car being totaled. I have been working on for the past few years to not let the bad stuff get to me it ruins the rest of my day or the rest of the week or something. I try to block out the bad feelings so I can function normally and be happy and not be bothered about what happened. I have gotten better but there will come times again when I regress back to my oldself.

My former friend said the one thing she would never do would be to surprise me. So yes I do.

I am exactly the same. I hate surprises and almost always react badly to them, even good ones.

Depends on the surprise...
Anything that I don't like anyway (like a birthday party) would extremely annoy me. and chances are i would react badly, maybe stop the thing right away (and annoy those few friends)
But I'm quite open about such things, everybody knows I don't like that kind of stuff, so it doesn't happen.

yes! completly HATE surprises from other people/situations.
though if i decide to go for a long walk and dont know where im going that is usually ok to good; but even birthday presents i will often hate as i dont understand them- it can feel really uncomfortable? hard to describe.... and i LOATHE comparative strangers kissing me goodbye when we've just met- its so personal and intrusive (i hate the touching thing...). hand shaking is ok, but people think im weird when im sticking my hand out and trying to duck my head away... i must look odd!
i def wouldnt describe myself as being obsessed with ruotine at all... but perhaps i am.. i just like to know to a resonable extent what's going on before hand... if not..it makes me really shut down- i close my face and body off from expressing all emotions...
you're not weird..

I actually have a very hard time showing surprize. Usually it just looks like I don't care, even though I do.

*Holds up hand* Me! I know the answer to that question! I wouldn't like that at all!

Oh, hang on, that was a rhetorical question, right?

No, seriously, I would hate it. Given how much I loathe a) unexpected changes to my plans b) loud noises (especially shouting) and c) socialising, I actually can't think of anything worse than walking into a room and having a large group shout "SURPRISE!" at me. Whenever you see that on television the person is always delighted. I would leave the room, burst into tears, and almost certainly have a panic attack. The person whose idea it was would be in BIG trouble. My girlfriend is aware that, as much as I love her, if she ever pulled a stunt like that on me our relationship would be over.

I dislike both "everyday" & "special occasion" surprises, whether or not any of them are considered "pleasant" on some level. It takes a lot of time for me to get used to anything-springing something on me is a really bad idea, unless one is looking to get me to display hysterical unpleasantness. Socializing is hard enough even when I've weeks ahead of time to anticipate...

It wasn't loud at all. It was just us employees and they all brought food and we were all eating and they were all talking and asking me questions. There was no loud noise. It was not one of those parties. Some parties are quiet. Parties don't have to involve lot of people. It can be five people and it can still be considered a party. There was maybe about ten people there. It was only the housekeeping department only and we had it in the breakroom.

So you wouldn't like being given a gift you're saying? :?

surprises freak me out. My friends have learned to tell me about things weeks in advanced and keep reminding me up to the date.
